WEST BOOTHBAY – Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences announced that Erin Simendinger of Rockland has received the first scholarship in memory of Dr. Maureen Keller.

Simendinger, a graduate of Rockland District High School, was chosen from a field of 50.

She will receive $1,000 for college expenses. She will attend Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., where she will study biochemistry.

The scholarship will be awarded each year to a Maine high school senior or college freshman who plans to major in science.
