Gallant sparks Bangor East win Lincoln, Orono-Veazie earn victories in both baseball and softball

BANGOR – Kyle Gallant pitched a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts as Bangor East prevailed in five innings over Katahdin 14-0 in a Little League All-Star baseball game for ages 11-12 Tuesday.

Gallant helped his cause at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs. Riley Masters stroked a two-run triple, and Christian Dionne doubled, singled and knocked in a pair.

Jay Branscombe singled for Katahdin’s lone hit.

Lincoln 14, Brewer 2

At Lincoln, four Lincoln players drove in two runs apiece as Lincoln downed Brewer in the District 3 tournament opener for both teams.

Tyler White doubled twice and drove in two runs, while Adam Laird and Brady Vose had a double, single and two RBIs apiece for Lincoln. Derek Libby singled twice and drove in two runs.

Ryan Nadeau had a pair of singles and drove in a run and Chase Daniels doubled for Brewer.

Orono-Veazie 7, Hermon 0

At Orono Monday, Seth Dwyer allowed only one hit and two walks while striking out 10 for Orono-Veazie.

Max Winter hit a double with three RBIs for Orono-Veazie. Pat McAleer doubled and knocked in two runs. Darren Casey-Covell added a double.

Bryce Stanhope singled in the fifth inning to breakup Dwyer’s no-hitter.

Rockland 5, Waldo County 1

At Rockland Sunday, Luke Morrill struck out 13 while spacing out four hits and three walks to pick up the District 2 tourney victory.

Anderson Murphy singled and scored twice for Rockland.

Brad Dolan led Waldo County with a triple and scored the lone run. Willy Mayer gave up only two hits, struck out eight and walked two.

At Lincolnville, Dylan Keller fired a no-hitter with eight strikeouts as Waldo County rolled over Knox Suburban.

Keller also singled twice for the winners while Brad Dolan stroked two doubles.

Orono-Veazie 15, Bangor East 5

At Orono, Hillary Laferriere stroked a two-run single and Julie Normand slammed a two-run double to spark an eight-run first inning for Orono-Veazie.

Laferriere finished with two singles and two RBIs, and Normand with a single, double, triple and three RBIs for the winners. Amy Waldleigh singled, doubled and pushed across four runs. Chelsea Paul rapped three singles and knocked in a run. Tanna Jellison had two singles and two RBIs, and Tiffanie Schmidt singled twice and knocked in a run.

Elena Patadkos ripped a two-run triple for Bangor East. Hannah Griffin had two singles.

Lincoln 15, Hermon 5

At Lincoln, Kristie Burleigh had three hits as Lincoln eliminated Hermon from District 3 play.

Burleigh had a triple, double and single while Michelle Paul singled three times and Ashley Clapp had two doubles. Burleigh also picked up the win on the mound.

Ashley Kelly had a pair of singles for Hermon.

Guidelines for coaches

During the busy summer sports season, the NEWS asks that managers and coaches for the home teams promptly report the games. Games can be reported starting at 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Games can not be reported on Saturday.

Those seeking to report games from the Greater Bangor area may call at 990-8275. Those outside the Bangor area may call toll free at 1-800-310-8600. Game results will also be accepted through the fax machine. Its number is 990-8092.

Coaches and managers are urged to provide details for both teams when reporting games. First names of players on both teams as well as statistics are needed. Those not providing full details for both teams run the risk of the games not being published in the paper.
