Searsport marine museum seeks help

SEARSPORT – The Penobscot Marine Museum is seeking volunteers to work in all museum departments, now open for the summer season.

According to Mac Deford, PMM director, “The museum needs additional interpreters who, after a brief period of training, provide information to visitors about its various collections, buildings and exhibits. Some interpreters are stationed in one building; others are roamers and cover a variety of different positions across the museum’s campus.”

Volunteers are also needed in the Stephen Phillips Memorial Library. “We are happy to have help on the reference desk, developing our collections database, writing ‘finding aids’ for our manuscript collections and organizing photographic collections,” said Deford.

“There are specific research projects to do, and we always need help researching and answering inquiries on maritime history and genealogy.”

Volunteers who are interested in gardening or working on the grounds this summer are needed, including people with landscaping experience. The store also can use help in the summer and training is available.
