Arcady concerts set for Minsky Hall

BANGOR – Arcady Music Society’s 2002 Summer Festival features U.S. and international performers including the DaPonte String Quartet with clarinetist Thomas Hill; Musica Petropolitana from St. Petersburg, Russia; pianists Steven Lubin and Masanobu Ikemiya teamed up with Indian sitar performer Shafaatullah Khan; The Essex Quartet joined by student performers; The T’ang String Quartet from Singapore; and the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin from Moscow.

This year’s ragtime concerts will include the 14-member New York Ragtime Orchestra, displays of period memorabilia and a silent film presentation.

Many of the concerts will feature special performances by Arcady Youth Competition winners, including Henry Chen, pianist, of South Berwick; Kelsey Hudson, violinist, of Blue Hill; Nina and Clare Monfredo, a violin-cello duo, of Seal Harbor; Molly Nichols, harpist, of Machiasport; Emma Stanley, trumpeter, of Lamoine; and Sarah St. Denis, soprano, Bar Harbor.

Select former Arcady competition winners and student performers soprano Felice Kuan, the GEMS Quartet and the Mannes Senior String Quartet will make guest appearances.

“As an added treat,” said Arcady founder and artistic director Masanobu Ikemiya “most concerts are preceded by a one-hour informational lecture providing insights into the music to be performed and the art of live performance in general.”
