ROCKLAND – A local gallery plans a film festival for teen-agers and adults on four Friday nights in July and August.
Sponsored by Julia’s Gallery for Young Artists, which is affiliated with the Farnsworth Art Museum, the festival will present feature films, documentaries and student-made video-films.
All of the programs will begin at 7 p.m. in the Farnsworth Art Museum auditorium, 352 Main St. Filmmaker Ben Levine will introduce each program, then lead a discussion.
On July 12, the first film is “George Washington,” David Gordon Green’s debut feature film, which was named Best Film in 2001 by the New York Film Critics Circle. Nicolas Roeg’s “Walkabout” will be shown on July 26. The award-winning “Walkabout” has been included by some critics in their top film picks. The documentary “Chain Camera” will be presented on Aug. 9. It is a collection of short autobiographical vignettes made by young people from the same high school in Los Angeles. The last program, on Aug. 24, will feature a collection of shorter films and videos made by young people in Maine, some of whom will be on hand to discuss their work. Included are “Waking Up,” an Alaskan road movie about rock ‘n’ roll and nature, and a short fiction, “The Invisible Boy,” by Rockland student artist Olney Atwell.
Parents of children under 17 should be aware that some of the films contain mature subject matter and explicit language. Cost is $2 at the door. Teens and adults are welcome to attend. For information, call the Farnsworth at 596-6457 or Julia’s Gallery at 594-2983.
