JACKSON – Vandals hit the Jackson Congregational Church the night of July Fourth, covering its white siding with graffiti alluding to sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

The words were discovered by church trustee Cindy Ludden at approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday.

The garage doors of an auto repair shop next to the church also were covered with slogans in green spray paint.

“As soon as the word got out, people showed up and began helping clean the paint off,” trustee Cheryl Moore said. “This is a church. You don’t do stuff like that with a church.”

One of those who helped scrub the paint from the church’s siding was Alvin Littlefield. Littlefield said he drove by the church on his way to work at 1 a.m. and didn’t notice anything wrong.

“It must have happened after I went by,” he said.

Besides the statements dealing with sex, drugs, and rock and roll, the vandals also painted the slogans; “Watch out we are coming” and “The sons of mischief on the loose.”

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
