Thomas brothers power Orono past Calais 10-9

ORONO – Bo Thomas scored from third base on a wild pitch and his brother Dustin Thomas hit an RBI single to plate Ryan Levesque in the bottom of the seventh as Orono edged Calais 10-9 Saturday in American Legion action at the high school field here.

ORONO – Bo Thomas scored from third base on a wild pitch and his brother Dustin Thomas hit an RBI single to plate Ryan Levesque in the bottom of the seventh as Orono edged Calais 10-9 Saturday in American Legion action at the high school field here.

Bo Thomas doubled and got to third on a Levesque bunt single. Both advanced when Brad Goody was hit by a pitch.

Jeff Miller powered the Twins with a two-run double. George Keefe singled twice and Mike Merritt added an RBI double.

Chad Pike led the Suns with three RBIs on two doubles. James Ramsdell singled twice and drove in one run.

Bangor earns sweep

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, the Comrades scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to surge to an 8-4 win over Houlton-Woodstock in the first game of a doubleheader and earned a 10-0 decision in the second game.

In the first game, Bangor scored four runs with two outs in the sixth to break open a 4-4 contest. Nate Hall singled in the go-ahead run while Kevin Proctor, Andy Tremble and Andy Sullivan followed with consecutive RBI doubles. Phil Cayford provided three scoreless innings of relief, striking out six, to earn the win. Hall singled twice.

Caleb Palmer rapped three singles and drove in two runs for Houlton-Woodstock while Nick Cole and Mike Lenentine added two singles apiece.

In the second game, Josh Heath threw a complete-game seven-hitter, striking out five and walking none.

Bangor’s Andy Treadwell drove in three runs on a triple and two singles. Andy Tremble added a double and a single and two RBIs while Nate Hall had three singles and an RBI.

Nick Cole and Justin Henderson had two singles apiece for Houlton-Woodstock.

Trenton sweeps Penquis

At Foxcroft Academy, Blake Alley hit a grand slam in the first inning of the second game to help Trenton to a doubleheader sweep. Trenton won the first game 17-4 and the second 15-8.

In the first game, Jake Lowell hit a single and a two-run homer in the seventh inning for Trenton. Chris Sargent had three singles with three RBIs and Alley doubled and hit three singles with four RBIs.

Adam Russell hit two singles and knocked in a run for Penquis. Ross Morrison hit a single and a double with one RBI.

In the second game, B.J. Greenleaf doubled and singled with two RBIs for Trenton. Ryan Hutchins hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Bryan White had three singles for Penquis and James Gray doubled.

Brewer sweeps Sebasticook

At Brewer, Andrew Patterson hurled a two-hitter to win the first game 12-3 and the Falcons rolled to a 23-8 win in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Sebasticook.

In the first game, Patterson struck out five and didn’t walk a batter in the victory. Joel Barrett singled, doubled and drove in five runs. Abram Allard singled, doubled and drove in three.

Ben Davis smacked a two-run homer for the Storm while Phil Hendricks doubled.

In the second game, Jason Harvey jolted two home runs and drove in five runs for Brewer, which scored nine runs in two of the first three innings and took advantage of nine Sebasticook errors.

Pat Moran added a double, a single and three RBIs for the Falcons while Eric Libby tripled.

Marty Quint and Jake Laselle had two singles apiece for Sebasticook.

Brewer sweeps Schoodic

At Sullivan, Darren Stover threw a one-hit shutout to lead Brewer to a 5-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader. Brewer picked up a 10-2 win in the second game.

In the first game, Pete Saunders hit a single and a triple to knock in a run for Brewer. Evan Stinson and Ryan Snell each singled with two RBIs.

Blake Alley singled for Schoodic’s only hit.

In the second game, Pat Estey led Brewer with three singles. Stinson hit two singles with one RBI. Saunders singled with two RBIs.

Ben Huber hit a single and a double for Schoodic. Mike Cowperthwaite hit a pair of singles.
