Maine airports to get new equipment

WASHINGTON – The government on Monday released a new list of more than 100 airports where passenger checkpoints will be overhauled and explosives detection machines will be installed.

The Transportation Security Administration faces a Nov. 19 deadline for replacing private screeners with an all-federal work force, and a Dec. 31 deadline for inspecting all checked bags for explosives.

Federal teams will be visiting the airports this week to draft plans for the new checkpoints and for installing the new equipment.

The following airports will have screening checkpoints overhauled:

. Adak Naval Air Station, Anchorage, Cold Bay, Fairbanks, Ketchikan, Cold Bay and Prudhoe Bay, Alaska

. Dothan and Mobile, Ala.

. Kingman, Ariz.

. Carlsbad, Eureka, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose, Calif.

. Denver

. Melbourne, Naples and Orlando, Fla.

. Atlanta and Macon, Ga.

. Hilo, Hawaii

. Cedar Rapids and Sioux City, Iowa

. Boise and Idaho Falls, Idaho

. Bloomington and Decatur, Ill.

. Chicago O’Hare

. Salina, Kan.

. Baton Rouge, La.

. Worcester, Mass.
