It sounds like a phony excuse to me. Our government is frantically trying to destroy the new International Criminal Court, defying the whole civilized world including every one of our close allies. The reason they state is that somewhere, sometime an American soldier might be falsely accused for political purposes.
I suspect the real reason for the alarm is that there is a good likelihood that Henry Kissinger and other top officials of past and present U.S. governments could be accused, quite appropriately, of war crimes. Also it might well inhibit President Bush’s declared intention to bomb anywhere any time we see fit, regardless of international law.
