BANGOR – Concerts, an art display and discussions on Shakespeare have been scheduled for the coming weeks.
St. John’s Organ Society is holding the 10th anniversary season of its summer organ concerts at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St. Music is played on the historic E&GG Hook Organ, Opus 288. Admission is free. Programs are:

Paintings by abstract artist Patricia Hurd are on display until July 15 in the Robert E. White Gallery at Husson College.
“Using many different techniques,” Hurd said, “I try to convey my emotions and thoughts through the paint. I depend on many skills such as wash, impasto, encaustic, realism, abstraction – whatever it takes to make the work speak.”
Hurd considers herself a self-taught painter and said she has learned painting skills from Maine artists and instructors.
“Maine has a great fabric of many talented people,” she said. “We are fortunate to live here.”
The White Gallery, located in Peabody Hall, is open 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. For information, call 941-7129.
Bangor Public Library is offering two discussion groups as part of the Shakespeare in the Library program and in conjunction with the Maine Shakespeare Festival, which runs July 16-Aug. 17.
Kathleen Ellis of the University of Maine will lead a discussion of “The Tempest” 5:15-7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the library boardroom. She also will lead a discussion of “Richard III” 5:15-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 in the lecture hall.
Participants will receive coupons to purchase Shakespeare Festival tickets at a reduced price, courtesy of The Penobscot Theatre.
