Hampden Academy

HAMPDEN – Andrea Palmer, 16, of Hampden is spending two weeks as a Landmark Volunteer at Cobscook Bay State Park in Dennysville. Palmer, daughter of Carla and Michael Palmer, is part of a 13-member group that is living in field station cabins and working as Landmark Volunteers. The group is doing manual labor including trail maintenance, tree pruning and creating or clearing trails.

Palmer, a junior at Hampden Academy, has given more than 100 hours of service to the Maine Discovery Museum. She also volunteers at the Eastern Maine Medical Center. She is a trained and active peer mentor with the National Center for Student Aspirations. At Hampden Academy, she works with the leadership team, the civil rights team, the Key Club, math team, concert choir and Chamber Singers. She is also a peer tutor. In addition, she is also working on the creation of a school-established literature discussion group.

Maine School of Science & Mathematics

LIMESTONE – Cristina Domnisoru, of Old Town, a student at the Maine School of Science & Mathematics, is one of 54 U.S. high school students selected to participate in the 19th annual Research Science Institute sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Education in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The U.S. students represent the nation’s top 1 percent of mathematics and science students, as do the 22 international students who come from Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Lebanon, Poland, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

The institute combines six weeks of classroom lectures and intensive research under the tutelage of distinguished university professors and researchers. In addition to classroom and laboratory activities, students attend evening presentations by prominent leaders of science and industry as part of the Distinguished Guest Lecture Series. Students also enjoy a weekend in New Hampshire’s White Mountains and visit cultural and historical sites in the Boston area.

WALTHAM, Mass. – Jonathan Dearborn of Holden was named to the president’s list. Scott Tremble, also of Holden, was named to the dean’s list.

Brigham Young University

PROVO, Utah – C. Bradford Rand, son of Dr. Craig B. and Pat Rand and graduate of Brewer High School, graduated April 26. He will attend the University of Iowa’s dental school in the fall.

Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Kate Kovenock of Orono and Rebecca Schweikert of Bangor have been named to the dean’s list.

Eastern Maine Technical College

BANGOR – Greg Rollins of Hampden won a silver medal recently at the Skills USA Championships in Kansa City, Mo. He is a student in the carpentry program.

Jason Ingalls of Surry, a computer maintenance technology student, and Todd Morneault of Orrington, a culinary arts student, were recognized for finishing in the top 10 at the competition.

Eastern Nazarene College

QUINCY, Mass. – Amara Music of Kenduskeag has been named to the dean’s list, and Brandon Frost of Brewer has been named to the honor roll for the spring semester.

Husson College

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Husson College in Bangor will receive $680,872 over three years in funding from the Department of Health and Human Services to encourage training in nursing. The grant will be used to fund Husson’s Distance Education Rural Primary Care Program. The funding comes as part of a $30 million initiative announced by Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy G. Thompson.

Johnson & Wales University

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Matthew Cammack, Bangor; Jennifer Kirstein, Bangor; Brooke Rideout, Bangor; and Bethany Samiya, Hampden, have been named to the dean’s list.

Liberty University

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Recent graduates are Joshua Sargent of Bangor, who received a degree in communication studies; and Roland Foss of Bangor, who received a degree in religion.

Maine Maritime Academy

CASTINE – Darrell King of Bangor, Jason Goodwin and Peter Pitula of Glenburn, Evan Hafford and Andrew Sprague of Hampden and Thomas Rushmore Jr. of Orrington graduated May 11.

Northeastern University

NORTON, Mass. – Jake Ward graduated from Northeastern University June 6, with a master’s degree in criminal justice. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wheaton College in 2001. A 1997 graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School, Ward is the son of Richard and Judy Donaher of Orrington.

NORTON, Mass. – Michael Pare, son of Rick and Nancy Pare of Orono, graduated with a degree in mathematics. In September he will enter a graduate studies program in electrical engineering at Stanford University in San Francisco, Calif.

NORTON, Mass. – Matthew Pare, son of Rick and Nancy Pare of Orono, graduated with a degree in psychology. He will continue his education in psychology at American University in Washington, D.C.

Roger Williams University

BRISTOL, R. I. – Elise Chasse of Holden and Amy Hutchins of Orrington have been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.

BOSTON – Abigail Pullen of Bangor graduated and received a bachelor’s degree.

BOSTON – Catherine Chasse of Bangor, daughter of Josephine and the late Gilman Chasse, was named to dean’s list for the spring semester.

STANDISH – Jessica Maurais of Old Town, Jason Prada of Orland and Justin Ladd of Stetson have been named to the dean’s list.

ORONO – Craig Frey, son of Gus and Barbara Frey of Bangor, received the Presidential Achievement Award for outstanding academic performance during the spring semester.
