BANGOR – Children ages 3-5 from Bangor YMCA’s preschool program joined in Independence Day parade on June 27 at the Westgate Manor Nursing Home. More than 30 children gathered with 80 senior residents in the back courtyard for a festive parade and music by the Penobscot Wind Ensemble.
Adorned with leis, tattoos, tiaras and star-shaped glasses, both young and old wore red, white and blue in recognition of the Fourth of July holiday.
Each child received balloons and flags, and Bingo the Clown, provided by Bangor Ground Round, entertained with balloon animal creations and juggling.
Seniors and children got acquainted with companion dogs from the Golden Moments Pet Therapy Dogs and the Downeast Corrections Prison Pup Program.
After the entertainment, the group enjoyed a hot dog barbecue with lemonade and ice cream to cool the summer heat.
The preschoolers gave homemade American-spirit baskets to the Westgate Manor residents to thank them for serving as hosts for the event.
