CARIBOU – Four men who allegedly were in possession of heroin or involved with its distribution in The County were indicted Friday by the Aroostook County grand jury.

Haze McDougal IV, 31, of Caribou was indicted on charges of robbery, Class A burglary, and two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. Mikel Cameron, 21, of Caribou also was indicted on charges of robbery and Class A burglary and a single count of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Robbery is a Class A crime punishable by up to 40 years in prison

Others indicted were Jesse Young, 27, of Caribou on a charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, and Lance R. Ellison, 32, on a charge of Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.

McDougal, Cameron and Young remained Friday in the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton in lieu of bail. Ellison had been transferred previously to the Washington County Jail in Machias, where he remained Friday in lieu of bail.

On June 17, Caribou police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a robbery of a Caribou man the night before. Police eventually determined that the robbery was motivated by a need to get money to buy drugs.

Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency eventually arrested McDougal, Cameron, Ellison and Young after they determined that the men allegedly were involved in heroin distribution in the area.

The MDEA alleges that over a period of two months before their arrest, Ellison and Young made at least 10 trips to Massachusetts and returned with several thousand bags of heroin.

Ellison was arrested on June 17 after police stopped his car in Caribou and 235 bags of heroin were found in his pants. Each of the bags is about 1-inch square and contains about one-tenth of a gram of heroin, according to police.

Police estimated that the seized heroin had a street value of $5,000.
