A Brewer man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly assaulted his ex-wife’s boyfriend at an Orrington house, then nearly hit two pedestrians as he drove away.
Andrew Hewes, 41, was charged with two counts of assault and a count of terrorizing, driving to endanger and operating a motor vehicle after suspension as a result of an incident at a Fields Pond Road home about 6:45 p.m.
Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home after a caller reported that a man – later identified as Hewes – had broken in and was going to assault him, said Sgt. Troy Morton of the sheriff’s department. There was a scuffle and the emergency phone call to the Penobscot Regional Communications Center went dead.
On the way to the residence, a second call came in from the same man who said that Hewes had returned, assaulted him again, and left. Authorities also received reports of a motorist driving erratically in the area and nearly striking two people out for a walk, Morton said. The description of the erratic motorist matched the one involved in the assault.
At the home, Morton found the man Hewes allegedly assaulted and noted the man had bruising and cuts on his forehead and on the right side of his head. The man said Hewes had showed up to drop off paperwork for Hewes’ ex-wife, his girlfriend, and ended up assaulting him twice. He also told Morton that Hewes had threatened to shoot him.
Hewes made several calls to the Orrington residence from Brewster’s Fine Food & Drink on Wilson Street in Brewer, where Morton and Brewer police Officer Rich Smith paid a visit. Hewes was arrested without incident and taken to Penobscot County Jail, Morton said.
Two men found at a vacant Orrington residence were arrested and charged with theft and burglary Monday afternoon.
A family member and neighbor of the owner of the Center Drive home called police after noticing two people breaking into the property. Detective Bill Flagg and Deputy Doug Smith of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department caught the two men still on the property and recovered some stolen property, said Sgt. Troy Morton, who assisted in the investigation.
Morton said that it appeared the two had been at the home earlier and taken items that weren’t immediately recovered.
Adam Deschaine, 20, and Alfred Murray, 42, both of Brewer, each were charged with burglary and theft.
