If you’ve been hiding out all summer, it’s time to get out of your shell for the 37th annual Yarmouth Clam Festival, which opens at 10 a.m. Friday and runs through 6 p.m. Sunday on Main Street in Yarmouth. This year’s fair will feature a shucking contest at 11 a.m. Saturday and a firefighters’ muster at 1 p.m. Saturday, along with a block party Saturday night. For information, call 846-3984.

A cause for cheers
An evening of wine tasting is fun enough, but it’s even sweeter when it benefits a worthy cause. Advance tickets are now on sale for the Mount Desert Island Wine Classic, to be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor. The event includes a wine tasting, silent auction, wine education seminars, live music by the Downeast Swing Band, hors d’oeuvres and a buffet catered by Sawyer’s Catering. Tickets cost $45 per person before July 21, $50 per person afterward. Funds raised from the event will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hancock and Washington counties.
