FRANKFORT – A Searsport woman remained in critical condition Wednesday at a Bangor hospital a day after she lost control of a sport utility vehicle that rolled at least three times on the North Searsport Road.

April Stevens, 19, had been driving north on the North Searsport Road shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday when she apparently drove off the right shoulder and rolled her 1989 Ford Bronco as she overcorrected, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release Wednesday.

She was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was being treated for “massive head trauma.”

The SUV rolled at least three times before landing on its wheels in the southbound lane.

While speed appears to have been a factor, alcohol was not, officials said.

Stevens, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck.
