Ex-Maine woman slain in Florida shooting Former fire chief remains on probation

SOUTH PATRICK SHORES, Fla. – The sister of a member of the Bangor planning board was fatally shot in this East Coast Florida town Tuesday night by her estranged husband, who then turned the gun on himself, according to police reports.

Julianne Fournier Stimus, 45, was shot several times just outside her residence, police reports said. She is the sister of Rick Fournier of Bangor, a well-known bank executive and chairman of the planning board.

Aaron Stimus, 41, remained at a local hospital Thursday with a self-inflicted bullet wound to the head, according to Florida Today news. His condition was not available.

The shooting occurred after an argument erupted when Julianne went to Aaron’s residence across the street from where she lived to retrieve their 11-year-old daughter, according to police. The daughter witnessed the shooting, they said. The couple, who were in the process of divorcing, also have a 9-year-old son. The children remained with neighbors pending the arrival of relatives.

Police executed a search warrant at Aaron Stimus’ residence Thursday, according to Florida Today. He had not yet been charged in the shooting.

Julianne was born in Augusta and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1975. She attended the University of Maine. She later graduated from a barber school in Florida and had worked in that state as a hairstylist.
