BANGOR – At a meeting of the Bangor City Republican Committee Wednesday night, candidates were chosen to replace those who dropped out of the race for the Maine House of Representatives in District 118 and 119.
Both of the candidates who dropped out of the race had won primary elections. State law gives political parties until July 22 to field new candidates for elections.
James LaBrecque won a nomination to replace Duane Carter in District 118 and Tina Stimpson won a nomination to replace James Blair in District 119. Committee Chairman Tripp Lewis said about 19 people were on hand to vote for the new candidates at the office of attorney Larry Willey.
LaBrecque, a resident of Stillwater Avenue, will run against incumbent Democratic candidate Joseph Perry in the upcoming election for District 118. Stimpson, who lives on Union Street, also will face an incumbent Democrat in Pat Blanchette in District 119.
According to Lewis, LaBrecque and Stimpson have pledged “forceful campaigns to represent Bangor in the Legislature.”
