WASHINGTON, D.C. – A team of Maine high school basketball stars fared well over the weekend, winning all four of its games at the 17-and-under U.S. Junior Nationals.
The Maine Northstars won their four games by an average of 15 points and can automatically qualify for the round of 32 by topping the Colorado Elite in today’s evening game. In all, 196 teams are competing in the event.
The Northstars began the tourney by defeating Garden State of New Jersey 56-41 on Saturday behind the 21-point effort of Nokomis of Newport standout Danielle Clark. Bracey Barker of Mount Desert Island pitched in with 14. In Saturday’s second game, the Northstars posted a 52-44 victory over Baltimore Free Play, with Clark hitting for 23 and Barker scoring 16.
On Sunday, Clark tallied 21, Barker had 19 and Karen Sirois of Cony had 13 in a 71-42 win over Pennsylvania Motion. Later on Sunday, Clark and Barker had 15 and 13, respectively, in a 50-41 win over the New York City Stingers.
