ADDISON – The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11553 received three awards, including a plaque commemorating the most volunteer man-hours of community service, during the recent 82nd state convention.
Members donated more than 6,500 man-hours in community projects, including 4,000 in building a Faith Methodist Church in Columbia.
Post Quartermaster Charles Warden and Post Commander John Kennedy were awarded hats and $25 checks for outstanding recruiting efforts.
Roberta Handy of the Ladies Auxiliary was given a special certificate and letter from National VFW Commander-in-Chief James Goldsmith for saving the life of a Cherryfield woman.
