An Arizona man was arrested at the Air National Guard base in Bangor Monday after refusing to leave the property.
It was not immediately known why William Pitchford, 39, of Phoenix wanted to be on the air base, but when told to leave by Bangor police Lt. Chris Blanchard, he asked what his options were, Blanchard said. Pitchford was told he could leave the property or go to jail.
Pitchford replied, “I think I want to be arrested,” Blanchard said. Pitchford was subsequently taken to Penobscot County Jail where he was being held Monday evening on $500 bail. He will make his initial court appearance today in 3rd District Court in Bangor.
Police are following leads after the weekend burglaries of two Bangor businesses, officials said.
Sometime between Saturday and Sunday, burglars broke into NBS Telcom and Medical Depot at 189 State St., taking cash, said Detective Sgt. Jeff Millard. Officials are not yet releasing how much money was taken as the burglaries are still under investigation. Nothing else was reportedly taken from the businesses besides the money.
Entry to the businesses was forced, but officials would not say how burglars entered the building, Millard said.
A 17-year-old Brewer male faces charges of possession of marijuana and tobacco after attempting to flee from police early Sunday morning, officials said.
Brewer police Cpl. Jason Moffitt had noticed people walking behind a storage and moving company building near the downtown area and thought it was suspicious because of recent burglaries and acts of criminal mischief in the area, Cpl. Keith Emery said. When Moffitt approached the group of four people, three of them took off running. Only one in the group stopped when the officer ordered them to.
The one person who did stop was found to have cigarettes, a small plastic bag containing marijuana and a marijuana pipe in his possession, Emery said.
An intoxicated 18-year-old Brewer woman was charged with domestic assault and drug-related crimes after she allegedly got into an argument with her boyfriend because he went out to a local bar, police said Sunday.
Kaila Smith reportedly attacked her boyfriend after he came back from a bar late Friday night, striking him numerous times with her hands because he had gone to the bar, Brewer police Cpl. Keith Emery said. Witnesses told police that Smith had attacked her 22-year-old boyfriend and that he had retaliated by spitting in her face.
Smith was taken to Penobscot County Jail where officials found a marijuana pipe and a small amount of marijuana inside of her brassiere, Emery said. Smith was charged with domestic assault, possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
