Rodgers, Senecal join UMaine hockey team

ORONO – The University of Maine women’s hockey team has added two Canadian standouts to its incoming recruiting class.

Amy Rodgers of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Karine Senecal of LaSalle, Quebec have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Black Bears in the fall.

Rodgers is a 5-foot-8 goaltender who posted a 2.35 goals against average and a .925 save percentage for the boys hockey team at Dartmouth High School.

She is the only girl to play boys hockey in Nova Scotia and also participated in soccer and basketball. The honor student is bilingual in French and English and was the Brightwood Golf Club junior girls champion in 2000.

“Amy is an all-around athlete,” Maine coach Rick Filighera said. “She is a positional goalie that plays with poise and makes most of her saves under control.”

Senecal is a 5-4 defenseman/forward who captained her College Jean-de-Brebeuf squad last season. She scored 20 goals and handed out 68 assists in 176 games at the school.

“Karine is a very passionate player who can play both forward and defense,” Filighera said.
