BOSTON – Two University of Maine women are among the 21 individual America East Scholar-Athletes named Tuesday.

Softball player Leigh Ann Hlywak and swimmer Kate Abbott were the UMaine honorees.

Hlywak recently graduated with a 3.79 grade point average in elementary education. The Wilmington, Del., native was a four-time all-conference selection at third base.

Abbott, a sophomore biology major from Readfield, was a member of the league champion 200 freestyle relay team. Abbott is the recipient of the biology department Book Award (highest GPA in major) and the Presidential Achievement Pin.
