Ruth E. Kinne, trust officer in the trust and investment department of Bangor Savings Bank, has been promoted to vice president. Kinne joined Bangor Savings Bank in 1993 as assistant manager and loan officer. She has extensive banking experience from various positions she held at Merrill and Fleet banks.
A graduate of the University of Maine, Kinne holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration. She also is a graduate of the Cannon Trust School and a United Way volunteer.
The Bangor Public Library will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, for in-service training. The library will reopen at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1.
John Bapst High School Class of 1962 will celebrate its 40th graduation anniversary July 27. An open house will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the high school, 100 Broadway. Mary Cassum Aramel and Patty Kinney Knowles have organized the gathering. There will be coffee and doughnuts.
Lin Lufkin finished up as president of Rotary Club of Bangor on July 2, and Shawn Yardley conducted his first meeting as president on July 9.
The club donated more than $39,000 to charities last year, including gifts to the Challenger Learning Center, Rotary Hoop Fest, Camp Jordan, Literacy Volunteers, the Penobscot Theatre, Maine Alliance for Arts in Education, Pathfinders, United Cerebral Palsy, Habitat for Humanity and Community Health and Counseling Services.
Members will help with production of “Richard III” Aug. 14 at the Maine Shakespeare Festival.
Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s new music director and conductor, Xiao-Lu Li, will bring his wife, Yang Yang, and daughters, Christina and Jacqueline, for their first visit to Maine on July 30.
The symphony’s welcome reception for Li and his family has been rescheduled for 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Bangor Public Library’s children’s terrace and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. If the weather is unpleasant, the reception will be held in the library’s story room.

A.H. Harris & Sons Inc., based in Portsmouth, N.H., has opened an office at 54 Perry Road. Daryl Harvey, manager of A.H. Harris’s Augusta office, has been named manager of the Bangor operation.
The company sells construction products and serves the highway, commercial, industrial and residential markets. It specializes in concrete form work, concrete repair and restoration, geotextiles and erosion control. It also offers general-use products such as hand tools, reinforcing steel and construction chemicals.
Robert M. Files, a Florida resident who spent much of his life in Bangor, has recently published “The Romance with Nance,” a collection of letters and cards about falling in love during one’s later years.

A child safety seat checkup is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at the Bangor Fire Department on Main Street. The checkup is free. For information about other fitting stations, call the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety at 624-8756.
A golf camp for high school students will be held at Bangor Municipal Golf Course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 5-7.
Rob Jarvis, Bangor Muni assistant golf pro and head coach of Bangor High School’s golf team, will serve as instructor.
The cost of the camp is $150 and includes lunch and 9-holes of golf each day. For information, call 941-0232.
Bangor Center Corporation is sponsoring a juried photography show. Participants may enter photographs in two categories – Evoke the Past and Celebrate the Present. Cash prizes will be awarded
Photographs must be taken within the geographic area known as historic downtown Bangor. Photographs of structures that are near historic downtown and were standing during the same period as the buildings located in historic downtown also will be accepted.
Jurying will take place in September and the show will be exhibited in November. The show’s opening reception will coincide with the fourth annual Downtown Bangor Studio Tour Nov. 9.

Dirigo Sea Kayak & War Canoe Tours began offering sea kayak tours from Dock One on July 19. The tours run at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and are available Sunday-Tuesday by advance registration.
The war canoe tours are available with advance registration only for groups of eight to 22. They will be launched at the North Fourth Street boat landing in Old Town and are not recommended for children under age 10.

Hampden
The Hampden Recreation Department invites area senior citizens to a trip on the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, for a coastal train ride. Orono
Arcady Music Festival continues its summer music series with a concert of baroque works performed by Musica Petropolitana on original instruments. The program by five members of the St. Petersburg ensemble includes Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi and Handel.
Locally, the concert will be held 7:30 p.m. July 29, University of Maine, Minsky Hall.
