ORONO – The University of Maine department of public safety will be the host for an integrated technical cyclist course for police, security and emergency medical services personnel July 29-Aug. 2. The training will consist of classes, practical exercises and riding evaluations.

Participants will demonstrate advanced bike skills for the media at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the public safety building on the UMaine campus. They will display techniques such as riding up and down stairs, negotiating curbs at high speeds and rapid dismounts.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, July 24. Enrollment is limited to 25, and people from Maine, Connecticut and Oregon have registered already. The cost is $175 and includes instruction, training materials, meals, a one-year membership to the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association, a polo shirt and other materials supplied by local vendors.
