BANGOR – Binney & Smith, manufacturer of Crayola art materials, has selected Maine Discovery Museum as one of 15 children’s museums nationwide to participate in the 2002-2003 Crayola Dream-Makers Program.

Staff members from Maine Discovery Museum will work with teachers, students and parents in grades K-8 to coordinate this national art education program in the Bangor area.

This year’s Dream-Makers theme, “Weaving What We Are,” was developed to help children learn how culture and environment shape their lives and to better understand abstract qualities of character development through hands-on art activities.

“Maine Discovery Museum [has been] selected to host the program because of its interest in the arts and strong educational programming,” said Ron DeLong, manager of art education for Binney & Smith.

“Through the Crayola Dream-Makers program we hope to draw more attention to the role art plays in the development of children’s imagination, thinking skills and learning.”

Activities in the Dream-Makers program will include hands-on professional development workshops for teachers, parent-child workshops and an exhibition of children’s art at the museum.

For additional information, call Andrea Stark at the Maine Discovery Museum, 262-7200.
