Houlton police probe rash of vehicle thefts

HOULTON – The Houlton Police Department is investigating the theft of several all-terrain vehicles and a pickup truck over a period of about four weeks.

On June 23, a 2002 Honda ATV was stolen on Hogan Street, followed three days later by the theft of a 2001 Yamaha ATV on Foxcroft Road, according to Police Chief Daniel N. Soucy.

A 1993 Honda FourTrax ATV also was stolen July 1 from the Chandler Street area.

A 1997 Arctic Cat ATV was stolen July 10 from Community Park; a Honda ATV was taken July 14 from Sunnyside Street; and a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck was stolen July 23 from Court Street.

Except for one ATV, all of the stolen vehicles have been recovered, but no arrests have been made.

Police are asking anyone who might have information about any of the thefts to call the department.

With the exception of the ATV taken from Community Park, all of the vehicles that were stolen were taken overnight from private residencies. The keys had been left in all of the vehicles, Soucy said.

Police are reminding people to lock their vehicles, take the keys and keep valuables out of sight, even if those vehicles are parked on their own property.
