HAMPDEN – Organizers of one of the most popular summertime events in town are inviting everyone to bring their family and join the community for Hampden Children’s Day Saturday, Aug. 17.
The Hampden Children’s Day parade will be held at 11 a.m. The theme for the parade will be “The Spirit of America.”
“There is still plenty of room in the parade for your organization,” Amy Lorenzo said. “Prizes will be awarded for various categories. All businesses, groups, and individuals in the community are encouraged to participate in this event.”
The committee is also looking for individuals who are willing to volunteer some time to help with the parade lineup, or with some of the various activities that will take place throughout the day.
Those who have not yet sent in their application to be a part of the parade are asked to do so immediately.
Anyone wishing to volunteer or to participate in the parade should contact Lorenzo at 862-5522.
Organizations needing a flatbed trailer for the parade also should call Lorenzo.
“Any amount of time you can donate to make the Hampden Children’s Day a success would be appreciated,” she said.
In addition, the Hampden Children’s Day committee is also looking for individuals who can sing, dance, tell stories, juggle, do acrobatics, perform magic tricks or do mime.
For the first time in a very long time, Hampden Children’s Day is having a talent contest. The talent show will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Those who have skills to share may call Lori Cropley at 862-2962.
Also, the Hampden Community Band is looking for members to participate in the Hampden Children’s Day parade. Rehearsals will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7; 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13; and Thursday, Aug. 15, in the band room at Hampden Academy.
Those interested in participating are asked to call the Hampden Academy band director, Pat Michaud, at 862-5052; or Lorenzo.
Many other activities will be scheduled throughout the event, as well.
