Wells, Belcher power Hampden past Vermont

SEAFORD, Del. – Michelle Wells pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out nine and walking eight, and Kasey Belcher drove in four runs as Hampden triumphed 12-2 Wednesday over Vermont in the ages 11-12 Eastern Regional Little League Softball Tournament.

Belcher had a two-run single and a pair of run-scoring groundouts.

Amanda Palmer doubled and singled and drove in a run, Ashley Gott had a pair of singles and an RBI and Katelin Tunney keyed a seven-run first inning rally with a two-run single.

Old Town 9, Waldo County 8

At East Biddeford, Cory Grenier and Tyler Honey had back-to-back two-run singles in the top of the sixth inning as Old Town posted its fourth win in a row in the ages 11-12 Little League State Tournament.

Matt Jones, Evan Paradis, and Dana Leland walked to load the bases, all with two outs, before the Grenier and Honey hits.

Leland cracked a grand slam in the third for the winners. Honey launched a solo homer in the third, and Adam Fournier doubled.

Tyler Miles belted a three-run homer and struck out 10 for Waldo County, which was eliminated.

Bucksport 8, Bangor 3

At Windham, Joe Robicheau and Chris Maguire each had a single and a double to help Bucksport bounce Bangor from the 13-14 Junior League tourney.

South Portland 12, Auburn 4

At Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium, Chris Tait had a double and two singles and drove in two runs and South Portland rallied for 10 runs in the fifth inning to eliminate Auburn.

South Portland will have to beat unbeaten Saco twice on Thursday to claim the state title. The first game begins at 5:00.

Dave Bogart pitched six innings of seven-hit, two-run relief, striking out seven and walking two, to pick up the win.

Justin Collett had two singles and two RBIs for the winners.

Robie Leighton had a run-scoring triple and two singles for Auburn. Kevin Pontbriand tripled and Chris LeClair doubled.
