Hancock’s at home

Fans of Hancock’s of Blue Hill can now pick up the restaurant’s homemade treats at Tradewinds Market and the Blue Hill farmers market (Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons at the town fairgrounds). On-the-go offerings include cookies, biscotti, brownies, blueberry muffins and an assortment of savory baked goods. Or, you can stop in for a full meal, a glass of wine or coffee and a pastry at the restaurant on Route 172 in Blue Hill. Hancock’s is open every day except Tuesday. Call 374-3272 for more information.

To market, to market

The Maine Department of Agriculture has released a handy guide to the state’s farmers markets, with a map, days and descriptions of each. The map-size booklet will fit perfectly in your glove compartment so you can stop and shop while you’re on the road. Free copies are available by calling 287-3491, online at www.getrealmaine.com or by writing to: Maine Department of Agriculture, Division of Market and Production Development, 28 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333-0028.

Mediterranean son

Chef Rich Hanson, formerly of Jonathan’s of Blue Hill, has opened Cleonice Mediterranean Bistro on Main Street in Ellsworth. Hanson named the restaurant after his late mother, Cleonice Renzetti, a first-generation Italian who shared her love of cooking and experimenting with international cuisine with her son. Cleonice serves cuisine with Italian, Greek, Turkish and Spanish influences, including a nightly array of tapas and such entrees as native rabbit baked with lemon, garlic and local feta, grilled spring lamb kebabs, and roasted black cod with sorrel pesto. Cleonice is also open for lunch with a selection of affordable, healthful entrees with a Mediterranean flair. The dining room is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and from 5 to 9 p.m. for dinner. The tapas bar is open until 10 p.m. for after-theater snacks. For more information or reservations, call 664-7554.
