Veazie youth to perform at Aug. 12 Arcady concert

ORONO – A student from Orono High School will be among the youth featured at the next Arcady Music Society concert, to be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Minsky Hall, Class of 1944 Hall, University of Maine.

Meredith Crawford of Veazie, who plays violin and viola, will perform at the concert, along with soprano Sarah Upton and and trumpeter Emma Stanley. The three all are winners in the Arcady Youth Competition.

They will be joined by violinist Olivia Moy and flutist Steve Kim, music students from the New York area; as well as violinist Zoran Jakovcic and cellist Eric Dahlin, members of The Essex Quartet.

The ensemble will be rounded out with the addition of bassist Bill Blossom for a performance of Dvorak’s “Quintet Opus 77 for String Quartet and Double Bass.”

Other works to be performed include Hummel’s “Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major,” Mozart and Verdi arias, and Bach’s “Suite No. 2 in B minor.”

The concert also will be performed:

. Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Dover-Foxcroft.

. Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Federated Church in Skowhegan.

. Aug. 15, at 8 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Bar Harbor.

Arcady Music is a year-round, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing quality classical music to central, northern and Down East Maine with emphasis on chamber and youth programs.
