Police find husband, wife dead in Milo

MILO – State police are investigating the deaths of a husband and wife Friday that occurred a short time after the woman called police to report her husband had assaulted her.

Authorities were awaiting the results of the medical examiner’s report to make a final conclusion on the causes of death, but state police Detective Sgt. Chris Coleman acknowledged that the evidence so far suggested a murder-suicide and that they were looking into that as part of their investigation. An autopsy on one of the bodies was expected to be conducted on Saturday, he said.

The names of the man and woman weren’t being released until the next of kin could be notified. That hadn’t happened by late Friday night.

Coleman said that the wife called the police for help at 4:24 p.m. and spoke to a dispatcher with the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department who forwarded the information to the Milo police. Several officers were sent to the residence at 380 Medford Road, Coleman said. They arrived about 13 minutes after the call came into dispatch.

The officers found the two bodies. Coleman said the two were in the home with two dogs and that the dogs were not injured.

Coleman said that as part of the investigation, neighbors were interviewed and that the interviews resulted in some useful information. But citing the ongoing investigation, he declined to say what the neighbors may have heard or saw.
