HERMON – Andy Saunders of Ellsworth took advantage of a restart with two laps to go to outsprint Louie Mechalides of Tyngsboro, Mass., to the checkered flag in the limited sportsman feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night.

Mechalides had led by as much as half a lap before Doug Day’s spin brought out the caution flag. He remained in the lead off the restart, but Windham’s Jerry Babb’s lap 33 roll-over stopped the field yet again, this time with two to go. Saunders then pulled away to take the win. Scott Alexander of Orrington, Bangor’s Gary Smith, and Don Alexander Jr. of Carmel rounded out the top five.

Thibodeau gets pro stock victory

At Unity, Patrick Thibodeau of Winterport powered into the lead after a restart on lap five and outran the field for the remaining 30 laps Saturday night to post his third PTM Kick Butts Racing Pro Stock feature win at Unity Raceway.

Thibodeau took the lead from Bub Raven of Thorndike, who wound up third after Norridgewock’s Scott Albee outdueled him for second place. Randy Turner of Freedom finished fourth and Kris Huff of Orrington was fifth.

Shepard hangs on for win

At Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Ryan Shepard of Naples held off Richard Pelton of Scarborough on the final lap to claim his third NASCAR Pro Series victory of the season Saturday night.

Pelton had pulled alongside Shepard coming out of turn three, but had to settle for second place. Steve Berry of Gordon was third, David Oliver of Scarborough was fourth, and Bill Rodgers of Old Orchard Beach was fifth.

At Winterport Dragway, Tyke Wilbur of Sullivan finished first in the second annual Jeff Paluga Memorial King of the Street Race Sunday.

Paul Pinette of Bowdoinham finished second in the race, Randy Whitcomb of Belmont took third and Tony Warf of Bangor captured fourth.
