SEARSPORT – The Safe Harbor Institute will be the focus of a talk by minister and sailor Mike Robinson at the Penobscot Marine Museum.
Robinson will discuss the Safe Harbor Institute at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21. The program is part of the museum’s summer Tea and Talk series and takes place in the Savage Education Center on Church Street. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
Robinson will speak on the development of a Christian value-based educational program for at-risk youth that uses the lessons of the maritime environment to teach life skills to young people. Robinson believes the sea can awaken a sense of self-worth through the application of the principles of seamanship.
Robinson grew up in Sherman and graduated from Colby College and State University of New York at Albany before pursuing a career in business. He became president of Sherman Lumber Co. in Sherman Station. He obtained a master of divinity degree from the Bangor Theological Seminary in May.
