MACHIAS – State police were trying to find a 36-year-old Northfield man in connection with armed robbery and aggravated assault Tuesday afternoon.

Trooper Elmer Farren said Gregory Antil allegedly went into the home of a 34-year-old Whitneyville resident about 1:15 p.m. and beat the man with a baseball bat.

Antil, who allegedly told the victim he had a gun and would use it, left the home with the prescription drug OxyContin, the trooper said.

The victim reported the assault and was taken to Down East Community Hospital in Machias.

Farren said Antil is believed to be using a blue GMC pickup truck with a broken-out back window. He last was seen wearing jeans and a University of Maine at Machias sweat shirt, the trooper said.

The search for Antil is centered in Washington County, but state police have alerted law enforcement agencies throughout Maine, Farren said.
