SKOWHEGAN – The Margaret Chase Smith Library will celebrate Maine Heritage Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at 56 Norridgewock Ave.

The library will give tours of Smith’s house and there will be special exhibits, including “Building Social Capital: Margaret Chase Smith, A Lifetime of Civic Engagement.” Smith was the first woman to serve in both the United States House of Representatives and Senate.

Maine Heritage Day is sponsored by the Maine Archives and Museums Association as an opportunity for the public to explore museums, historical societies, and libraries throughout the state and learn about Maine’s varied heritage.
