Letter writer Bia Winter (BDN, Aug. 8) laments that President Bush is taking “yet another vacation,” then goes on to recite the liberal line that corporate greed is somehow his fault, and by extension the Republican Party. I am open to differences of opinion and philosophical differences between the two parties, but to suggest that Bush is not entitled to take a vacation is absurd, especially since the entire Congress is also at recess for the month of August.
The president’s responsibilities never stop, no matter where he may be. No president ever gets to take an uninterrupted break at any time, unlike the rest of us. He will still have daily briefings and conduct the business of this nation while away from the White House. He will work more on his vacation than the rest of will on ours. You may disagree with him, his party and his politics, but criticizing his need for some relaxation is insensitive and offensive.
