BREWER – The city has revised its animal control ordinance, effective Sunday.

Key changes for pet owners include:

. Homeowners may keep no more than four dogs over 6 months old at any given time.

. Cats, dogs and other animals are no longer allowed in the food preparation area in the city’s restaurants.

. People walking their dogs off their property will be required to carry with them a means of collecting and removing feces left by their dogs. Pet owners who use plastic bags for this purpose should carry a spare.

. Domestic animals are not permitted in city parks, cemeteries and playgrounds, except in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the city’s parks and recreation director.
