WASHBURN – Gabe Smith scored an unassisted goal and added an assist as the Central Aroostook Panthers opened their schoolgirl soccer season Saturday with a 2-0 win over the Washburn Beavers.
Stevie Fletcher added a goal and Brittany Lundeen stopped five of six shots for the Panthers of Mars Hill.
Jamie Abar made nine saves on 14 shots for 0-2 Washburn.

Limestone 2, Hodgdon 0
At Limestone, Jake Manner shut out Hodgdon as the Eagles of Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics won their season opener.
Manner stopped 16 of 23 shots. Bill Brown started the scoring for Limestone with an unassisted goal with 10:59 left in the second half. Dale Swanton added a goal on an assist from Nick Leighton with 2:26 left in the game.
Zach Goode stopped seven of 16 shots for Hodgdon.
