PORTLAND – The former CEO of the Hannaford Bros. supermarket chain has been tapped to lead a committee to study the feasibility of building a new entertainment complex to replace the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Hugh Farrington will head the seven-member committee, which will report back to the civic center’s board next May.
The civic center was built in Portland 25 years ago and has limited concessions, too few bathrooms and no luxury suites.
In May, civic center trustees shelved any plans to enlarge or renovate the arena, concluding it made more sense to build a new one.
