A 22-year-old Bangor woman recovering from a kidney transplant had $800 worth of medications stolen from her vehicle as she visited the National Folk Festival on Saturday, Bangor police Officer Allen Hayden said. The woman had parked her 2002 Toyota Celica in the parking lot of United Kingfield Bank on Exchange Street with the doors unlocked. She reported the items taken between 8 and 8:49 p.m.
CellCept, Prograf, Dilaudid, Prevacid, Xanax, Coumadin, Atenolol, Prednisone and Cardura were among the organ rejection medications, blood thinners and painkillers stolen, Hayden said. A nylon shoulder bag valued at $30 also was taken.
Sheriff’s deputies searched the Black Stream Road area in Hermon on Sunday night for a white male who apparently fled from a van he had been driving that rolled over after he failed to negotiate a corner.
Penobscot County sheriff’s Deputy Doug Smith said the man had been driving west when he left the road, rolling the 1988 Ford van onto the driver’s side. Smith said the driver apparently crawled out through the passenger’s side.
A witness who said she spoke with the driver shortly afterward described him as 6 feet tall, thin, with dark hair and smelling of alcohol. “He said he was fine and tried to get me to take him to his mother’s house,” the witness said. “When I wouldn’t, he took off running.”
Speed is believed to have been a factor in the accident, Smith said. Officials were still investigating to determine whether alcohol was involved.
A Milford man was charged with disorderly conduct after leading police on a foot chase through the waterfront area of Bangor during the National Folk Festival on Friday evening, officials said.
Police said Jason Mishou, 18, walked along Front Street, uttering obscenities, making lewd gestures toward women and staggering into vendors’ booths. Officers attempted to confront him, but Mishou fled.
Officer Chad Foley, riding a mountain bike, chased Mishou uphill toward Summer Street, then back toward Railroad Street. “I told him to give up as he couldn’t outrun me. He made some comment and laughed” and kept running, Foley said
The man tried to climb the outer fence of two fences leading to a beer tent when Foley tackled him, the officer said. He will appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Sept. 30.
The owner of a camp in Prentiss Township near Route 170 reported a break-in before 11 a.m. Sunday when the owner, of Lincoln, returned and found the front door kicked in, Penobscot County sheriff’s Deputy Peter Stone reported. The intruder took two half-gallon bottles of liquor, two boxes of .308-caliber ammunition, and a box and a half of .22-caliber Magnum ammunition.
The burglar broke several windows in the camp along with the door, Stone said. A damage estimate was not immediately made.
Officials from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department were summoned to a camp along Cold Stream near the Phinney Farm Road in Lowell after the owner returned Saturday to find it had been broken into, Deputy Quinton Goodall said Sunday. The intruder took a television, VCR and acoustic guitar.
The burglar removed a window screen and entered through the unlocked window, Goodall said. The value of the stolen items was not immediately known.
No charges were filed after three marijuana plants were seized from a 5-gallon bucket behind an Exeter home Friday evening, Deputy Josh Tibbetts of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said Sunday. An anonymous source reported to officials that the plants were 200 feet behind the Exeter Road home, which were seized without incident and valued at more than $100. The owners of the home were not identified because they had recently returned from a three-month vacation and deputies said they were not responsible for the plants.
