Presque Isle nips Houlton Berube goal gives Wildcats win

HOULTON – Melissa Berube’s second-half goal lifted the Presque Isle Wildcats to a 1-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Houlton Shiretowners Wednesday night.

Berube got the ball at the 18, dribbled in and scored on a shot from 16 feet away with 18:09 left.

Melissa DeMerchant saved two of three shots for the 1-1 Wildcats.

Anna Lenentine saved 14 of 16 shots for the 1-2 Shiretowners.

JV: Presque Isle 3-0

Hodgdon 5, Katahdin 2

At Sherman Station, Shanna McGary knocked in two goals to power the Hawks.

Amanda Fitzpatrick added a goal for 4-1 Hodgdon.

Michelle Martin and K.C. Duffy-Stanley provided a goal each for the 0-1 Cougars. Jayme and Jessica Green combined to make four saves on seven shots.

Fort Fairfield 3, Cen. Aroostook 2

At Fort Fairfield, Kaylee Searles scored the game-winner off a pass from Brittany McLaughlin with 11 minutes remaining in regulation as the Tigers clawed past the Panthers.

Ruthie Arato and Libby Gardner had a goal each for 2-1-1 Fort Fairfield. Dani Searles rejected three of 10 shots.

Jocelyn Carvell and Stevi Fletcher had a goal each for the 5-2 Panthers of Mars Hill. Samantha Brewer and Gabrielle Smith added an assist each. Rachel Graves and Brittany Lundeen combined to stop four of 10 shots.

Fort Kent 4, Van Buren 1

At Fort Kent, Meghan Minzy scored two goals to lead the Fort Kent Warriors.

Melissa Michaud and Ashley Desjardins each scored a goal for the 2-1 Warriors. Mindy Morneault saved two of six shots.

For the Crusaders, Natalie Cormier scored unassisted and Danielle Gagnon made 12 saves on 19 shots.

Madawaska 1, Limestone 0

At Limestone, Kelly Chase recorded the game’s only goal, which was unassisted in the first half, as the Owls prevailed.

Michelle Lavertu got the shutout, recording 17 saves on 18 shots.

Nikki Michaud rejected 26 of 28 shots for the Eagles.

Boys soccer

Fort Fairfield 4, Cen. Aroostook 2

At Mars Hill, Eric Tomquist’s unassisted goal at the 19:18 mark of the second half, his second of the game, broke a 2-2 tie and powered undefeated and untied Fort Fairfield to its fifth win.

Josh Turner added an insurance goal with 56 seconds left off a Kris Osgood feed.

Tomquist and Turner had scored in the first half off assists from Aaron Kenneson and Mickey Browning, respectively.

Jeff Clockedile had a goal for 1-5-1 Central Aroostook and assisted on Erik Smith’s goal. Erick Martinez assisted on Clockedile’s goal.

Tyler Bernaiche made nine saves on 17 shots for Fort Fairfield and Adam Crew made 13 stops on 19 shots for Central Aroostook.

Hodgdon 1, Katahdin 0

At Sherman Station, Jeff Condon’s unassisted goal in the second half propelled the Hawks past the Cougars.

Matt Hanning stopped all seven shots he faced for 2-3-1 Hodgdon.

Matt Mehrhoff, Frank Grass, and Burton Bragall combined to make 11 saves on 12 shots for 0-1 Katahdin.

Fort Kent 3, Van Buren 1

At Fort Kent, three different players scored as the Warriors knocked off the Crusaders.

J.J. Pinette provided a goal off a pass from Corey Boucher and Adam Jandreau assisted on a Ben Bouchard goal for 2-1 Fort Kent. Ethan Raymond added an unassisted goal, and Dustin Nadeau made three saves on six shots.

Tyler Hews knocked in a penalty kick for 4-2 Van Buren. Shawn Michaud turned back six of 14 shots.

Limestone 4, Madawaska 2

At Limestone, John Gomez blasted home two goals and Nick Leighton dished out two assists as the Eagles soared.

Dale Swanton provided a goal, plus an assist for the winners. Kevin Wilcox added a goal, and Jake Manner stopped 19 of 27 shots.

Steve Guerrette scored on a penalty kick and Steve Soucy scored off a pass from Anders Sadquist for the Owls. Jonathan Cowie had nine saves on 20 shots.
