WINDSOR – A 1,100-pound bull broke free from a loading trailer Tuesday and charged through the midway at the town’s fair before being corralled.
No one was seriously hurt, but at least six people were needed to finally wrestle the bull to the ground, according to Windsor Police Chief Todd Brackett.
The animal became agitated when some children ran up to the trailer as it was being unloaded, Brackett said.
The bull ran east until it hit pavement, then down the fair’s concessions aisle, hurtling past exhibitions of lawn mowers and all-terrain vehicles, and a bumper-car ride. It was finally captured near the exhibition hall.
A few were knocked down by the bull. But its owner, Kevin Woolam of Richmond, said he felt blessed that no one was injured seriously.
George Hutchins, the retired police chief in Damariscotta, was treated and released from a nearby hospital for a knee injury.
Woolam said he has been showing animals for 28 years, and Tuesday was the first time one got loose.
“It usually happens to someone every year, but this is my first one,” he said. “I’ve already gotten a ribbing from the rest of the exhibitors.”
