A Carmel man walked away uninjured after his car crashed into the front wall of a convenience store in Carmel on Sunday, deputies said.

Jay Foresman, 32, had pulled into the parking lot of Ye Ole General Store on Route 2 about 3 p.m. Sunday and was attempting to park his car, said Deputy Josh Tibbetts of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department. Foresman told police the brake pedal in his 1989 Oldsmobile went to the floor without the vehicle slowing.

While some items were knocked from shelves inside the store, the log construction of the building’s walls prevented any serious damage, the deputy said. Police estimated damage to the car at $4,000.

No charges were filed.

Four people avoided serious injury Friday evening in a collision on Broadway in Bangor.

Allan Ralph Black, 54, of Ashford, Conn., was driving his 2002 Chrysler north on Broadway with Sherry Andresen, 32, and Jan Black, 52, when a 2001 Lincoln driven by Frank Hatch, 56, of Hampden failed to yield as it crossed Broadway, Bangor police Officer Ed Mercier said. Black’s vehicle struck Hatch’s car and each had more than $3,000 in damage.

Both drivers complained of pain, but neither appeared to be seriously injured, officials said.

A Hampden man was charged with driving while under the influence of intoxicants after Brewer police noticed the vehicle he was driving was traveling erratically, officials said.

An Intoxilyzer test found William Moholland, 34, at more than twice the state’s legal blood alcohol limit of 0.08 percent, Brewer police Sgt. Perry Antone said. Moholland was taken to Penobscot County Jail, then released on bail. He will appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Oct. 11.

On Saturday, a Dixmont woman reported more than $250 in school supplies was stolen from her car, officials said.

The woman had parked her 1993 Subaru sedan on Union Street for a half-hour and thought she had locked the car doors, but returned to find one door open, the car lights on and the school supplies taken, Bangor police Officer Erik Tall said. Among the missing items were a calculator and an L.L. Bean book bag with the name “Dylan” sewn into it.

A Bangor man, already convicted of habitual driving after suspension, was charged with the same crime after Bangor police pulled him over Thursday.

Jason Rossignol, 26, admitted to police that his license was under suspension after officers received a report of a drunken driver, Bangor police Officer Jason McAmbley said. Rossignol said he was driving his 81-year-old grandfather, visiting from Caribou, from Eastern Maine Medical Center back to Rossignol’s apartment in Bangor.

Rossignol’s grandfather explained that he had not been feeling well and had asked his grandson to drive him after visiting with his wife at the hospital, the officer said. Officers explained that they should have taken a taxi home. Rossignol was taken to Penobscot County Jail and his grandfather drove the car home.
