ORONO – Annie Hamel scored her fourth goal in two games to lead the University of Maine to a 2-0 women’s soccer victory over Iona College in the final day of the Black Bear Invitational Monday.

Maine and Central Connecticut State both had 2-0 records in the tournament but CCSU was declared the winner of the tourney based on goal differential. CCSU beat Canisius 8-0 in the first game Monday.

Hamel scored in the first half off a pass from Jessica Wojcik. Heather Hathorn added a second goal for Maine less than nine minutes later with an assist from Allison Kelly. Naomi Welsh made one save on three shots to pick up her 11th career solo shutout, which breaks a Maine record.

Alicia Wisnewski made 15 saves on 34 shots for 0-2 Iona.

CINCINNATI – Quarterback Gino Guidugli opened his sophomore season with another amazing comeback.

Guidugli threw a 35-yard touchdown pass with 1:36 left, made the tying two-point conversion on a sneak, then ran 14 yards for a touchdown in overtime as Cincinnati beat TCU 36-29 on Monday.

Cincinnati (1-0, 1-0 Conference USA) scored two touchdowns in the final 5:17 of regulation behind Guidugli, who pulled off three fourth-quarter comebacks last season as a true freshman.

After Guidugli scored in overtime on a quarterback draw, safety Doug Monaghan intercepted Sean Stilley’s pass at the goal line to end it. Black-uniformed Cincinnati players formed a big pile at the goal line in celebration.
