MACHIAS – Andy Swift faced only three shots and didn’t have to make a save as the University of Maine at Machias earned a 4-0 men’s soccer victory over Maine Maritime Academy in a mutual opener on Wednesday.

Brian Handasyde provided an unassisted goal for the 1-0 winners. Tatenda Chirusa, Brett Howrath and Mahmoud Sowe also scored. Kenrick Libard dished out two assists and Jorge Tassara handed one out.

Thomas 5, Newbury 2

At Waterville, Tom Healy knocked in two goals to lead the Terriers to victory.

Rick Kelley had a goal plus an assist for the 2-1 winners. Dan Burdin also provided a goal. Ryan Conley made 16 saves on 22 shots.

Joseph Karishma and Trevor Swainei scored a goal each for 0-1 Newbury. Trevor Swaine stopped 24 of 32 shots.
