Several local youths will participate in one of the Eastern States Exposition’s prestigious 4-H shows to be held during the Big E in West Springfield, Mass. They have entered the 2002 4-H Horse Show, which will take place Sept. 20-22. Maine Day at the Big E is Saturday, Sept. 28.
Entered are Annie Torres, 14, of Horse Play Farms in Houlton and Sarah Swazey, 17, of Orland. Representing Sunset Stables in Hodgdon are Amanda Sloat, 16, and Katie Sloat, 17.
The Big E takes place Sept. 13-29, and will draw more than 5,000 entries from the United States and Canada to its open livestock shows. During the 17-day run, 500 youngsters from New England will show more than 1,000 animals in 4-H and youth livestock shows and compete for ribbons, awards and cash prizes. The fair’s FFA Day is Saturday, Sept. 14. The Big E will salute the 100th anniversary of 4-H on Sunday, Sept. 29.
