Nickerson lifts Searsport past Sumner

SEARSPORT – Freshman Matt Nickerson scored two goals and assisted on another Monday as Searsport beat Sumner 4-3 in their schoolboy soccer opener for both teams.

Josh McFarland also scored twice for Searsport while Drew Mercier picked up an assist and Kurt Lockhart made 21 saves on 24 shots.

Will Seyer had two goals and Christian Knosher added a goal for Sumner of East Sullivan. Carlos Velencia and Jay Haber picked up assists for the Tigers and Mason Young stopped 30 of 34 shots.

Penquis 3, Dexter 2

At Milo, Jordan Allen scored the game-winner with 7:50 left in the second half as the Patriots edged the Tigers.

Dustin Perkins assisted on the winner for 2-0 Penquis. Allen scored the Patriots’ first goal and Ben Webb added a goal and an assist. Kevin Nason made 12 saves on 17 shots.

Davis Richards and Jason Clukey each scored a goal for 1-1 Dexter. Brian Hersey made 17 saves while facing 20 shots.

Lawrence 4, Gardiner 1

At Fairfield, Kevin Hageman scored a goal in each half to pace Lawrence to victory.

Will Richard and Josh Saunders scored a goal each for the 2-0 Bulldogs, while Brandon Grudda notched two assists and Jon Kelley had one. Nate Lovitz and Saunders combined to make three saves on six shots.

Matt Beach scored on a Bill Cunningham assist for 0-2 Gardiner. Eric Hachey made six saves on 15 shots.

JV: Lawrence, 2-1.

Piscataquis 5, Penobscot Valley 1

At Guilford, Harper Hoffman scored a goal and assisted on another to help 1-0-1 Piscataquis earn the victory.

Jon Prescott, Chase Burbin, and Dan Rockwell each scored a goal and had an assist. Adam Ring scored one goal. Josh Luellen made eight saves on 15 shots for the Pirates.

Jared Michaud scored the Howlers’ only goal with an assist from Kyle Dewitt. Garrett Lavertu made 19 saves on 25 shots for 0-2 Penobscot Valley of Howland.

GSA 4, DI-Stonington 1

At Blue Hill, Jems Lausing, Will Rosenthal, Peter Graves, and Andrew Lymburner each scored a goal for George Stevens Academy.

Blake Wesley assisted on two goals while Mark Clapp and Mike Astbury added one each. James Friend made two saves on three shots for 1-1 GSA.

Doug Hanson scored the Mariners’ only goal with an assist by Evan Haskell. Chris Gray stopped 12 of 16 shots of 0-2 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Central 6, Schenck 2

At East Millinocket, Adam Allen had two goals and an assist and Joe Allen scored two goals to aid in Central’s second win.

Jimarey Connolly and Joey Lane each scored a goal. Blake Goodwin notched two assists while Josh Underhill and Derek Macombe had one each for the 2-0 Red Devils of Corinth. Scott Chambers made 14 saves on 18 shots.

Seth Johnson led the 0-1-1 Wolverines with a goal and an assist. Tyler Thompson scored a goal and Chad McLaughlin made an assist. Mike Rossignol made 10 saves on 24 shots.

Washburn 3, So. Aroostook 2

At Washburn, Clint Carter scored off a Josh Goupille assist with 8:01 to play, lifting the Beavers to victory.

Isaac Carney notched a goal and an assist and Seth Milton a goal for 5-2-3 Washburn. Zack Bird added an assist. Jason Thompson made nine saves on 14 shots.

Corey Edkins led 6-1 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook with a goal and an assist. Zac Austin netted a goal, while Jarred Grant added an assist. Jeff Boutilier made 12 saves on 21 shots.

Cen. Aroostook 1, Katahdin 0

At Sherman Station, Bryan Grew’s unassisted tally at 34:13 of the first half lifted the Panthers of Mars Hill to victory.

Adam Crew racked up 15 saves on 15 shots for 3-5-1 Central Aroostook.

Matt Mehrhoff made eight saves on nine shots for 0-4 Katahdin.

Fort Kent 1, Madawaska 0

At Fort Kent, James Raymond scored the winning goal for Fort Kent with 23 minutes remaining in the second half.

Jared McBreairty assisted on Raymond’s goal. Dustin Nadeau made seven saves on 14 shots for 3-1-1 Fort Kent.

Shawn Boucher registered 16 saves on 32 shots for 3-5-1 Madawaska.

Shead 4, Narraguagus 1

At Eastport, Ben Maloney scored three goals and added an assist to aid 2-0 Shead by 0-2 Narraguagus of Harrington.

Derek Maloney scored the other goal for the Tigers. Jason Bones and Mike Barnard also provided assists. Darren Constant made four saves on six shots.

Doug Hicks scored the Knights’ only goal with an assist by Gabe Chesker. Eric Peltier made 13 saves on 18 shots.

Limestone 4, Hodgdon 0

At Hodgdon, Dale Swanton scored a goal in each half to pace Limestone to victory.

Kevin Wilcox provided a goal and an assist for the 4-2-1 Eagles. Nick Leighton scored once and Neil Lettenberger added an assist. Jake Manner made 11 saves on 17 shots.

Zach Good made eight saves on 22 shots for 2-5-1 Hodgdon.

Easton 2, East Grand 1

At Easton, James Desmond’s goal with 9:27 remaining in the match gave the Bears the win over the Vikings.

Desmond’s goal came when he headed a cross from Matt Steel into the net. Nathan Manning-Harris scored an unassisted goal and Danny Warren made 13 saves on 26 shots for 3-6-1 Easton.

Darius Parker scored an unassisted goal and Chris Irish and Isaiah Gills combined to make 13 saves on 17 shots for 1-1 East Grand of Danforth.

Machias 3, Washington Acad. 1

At East Machias, Jamie McCarthy, Joe Richards and Chris Corell each scored a goal for 1-0 Machias.

Austin Roberts assisted on a goal, while Marcus Frutchey made five saves on nine shots.

Whitney Stevens scored Washington Academy’s only goal with an assist by David Roth. Jason Labonte made three saves on six shots.

Woodland 3, Calais 0

At Calais, Jeremy Gillespie scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Dragons downed the Blue Devils.

Ben Leighton and Rick Roussel also had goals for 1-1 Woodland while Aaron Moody made 15 saves on 25 shots.

Devon McPhee registered 13 saves on 18 shots for 0-1 Calais.
