BANGOR – TJ Maxx ‘N More, located at the Broadway Shopping Center, will be closed until noon today in remembrance of seven corporate employees who were among the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks last year.
The seven women were en route from Boston to Los Angeles on the American Airlines jet that hijackers slammed into the World Trade Center’s north tower.
TJ Maxx ‘N More is a subsidiary of TJX Companies, which is based in Framingham, Mass.
Ted English, president of TJX Cos., has asked employees of U. S. stores to observe a minute of silence before opening at noon. Stores in Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland will open at the regular time, also after a minute of silence.
“It is our intent to offer our associates and those in our communities an opportunity to reflect in whatever ways feel most appropriate,” English said in a prepared statement.
“Then, in an equally purposeful fashion, after a minute of silence, we will open all of our U.S. stores at noon, local time, symbolic of our determination to continue on and lead our lives in freedom.”
