BANGOR – The Jewish holiday of Sukkot is the ancient celebration of the fall harvest. To observe the holiday, Congregation Beth El will hold a Sukkot gathering at the Simonds’ home in Sedgwick at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.

Sukkot is celebrated with a festive mood in the Sukkah, a temporary booth constructed for the holiday. The Sukkah is made of natural materials and decorated with seasonal flowers and produce. The rituals of the holiday include the waving of specially selected branches, called lulav, and a rare Mediterranean fruit known as the etrog. Rabbi Dr. Laurence Milder will teach about the holiday, its ritual and songs.

All are welcome to attend, and are encouraged to bring a dish for a potluck supper. For information, call 945-4578.
